Performance based assessment is the gold standard for competency evaluation in medicine; as pharmacists continue to expand their scope of practice towards more patient-focused care, it is becoming more prevalent in pharmacy practice and education as well. To ensure readiness-to-practice, OSCEs have distinctive advantages over all other forms of assessment; this workshop is designed to help pharmacy faculty members implement OSCEs and performance based assessment into their courses and curricula.
OSCEs and performance based assessment are used widely in medicine and are the best available tools for evaluating practice-readiness. The overall goal of this activity is to enhance confidence, knowledge, and skills of participants in implementing OSCEs and performance based assessments in their courses and the overall program curriculum. Learning objective 1 focuses on the specific mechanics of OSCE development, while objective 2 focuses on implementation. Learning Objective 3 provides participants with the opportunity to reflect upon personal and professional development goals and opportunities for application of new knowledge and skill to their teaching practice.

Any discrepancies must be resolved with the CPE Provider directly and in a timely manner.

Requirements for CE Credit
To earn credit, the learner must complete the pretest, attend and participate in all sessions of the activity, complete a post-test and an evaluation of the entire course. Learners who do not attend every session will not receive any credit. There is no partial credit awarded.
The accredited provoder will maintain a list of learners for each session. It isnecessary that learners use the names under which they registered when they log in on ZOOM.

Zubin Austin, Ph.D.
Brief Bio : Professor Austin is the only University of Toronto Faculty member to ever have received both the President’s Research Impact Award (for societal significance of his work) and the President’s Teaching Excellence Award. In 2017, he was installed as a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences for his contributions in support of the health workforce. He is an international leader in the area of bridging education for internationally educated professionals, and is regularly commissioned by health professions’ regulatory bodies in Canada, the US, the UK and Australia to study competency-related issues. He has delivered over 150 keynote presentations at international conferences. In 2019 he was selected to deliver the Herbert Platter Lecture at the Federation of State Medical Boards (US) meeting. |
